SaaS Ideas Backed by Revenue Evidence

Discover software products with published revenue, compare their MRR, and explore the business models behind products that already have paying customers. 179 products in our library clear $1k MRR and 93 clear $10k — revenue evidence, not a profit claim. Where those products sit, and how thin each category is, beats anyone’s list of twenty “profitable SaaS ideas.”

The short answer

  1. 01

The bottom is saturated and the top is not: one third of reporting products earn under $100, one fifth earn over $10k. Both facts sit in the same sample.

  2. 02

Category counts matter more than category medians. A category with 30 products and 4 above $1k is a hobby market; one with 20 products and 9 above $1k is a market with buyers.

  3. 03

Developer tools are the thinnest: 41 products, 2 above $1k. Fewer buyers, longer evaluation, lower price tolerance.

Where the money actually sits

Sorted by how many products clear $1k MRR — not by median, which a single large product can distort.

235 products have no category and are excluded here. They are still counted in every percentile on /benchmarks/mrr.

Hit rate, not product count

The table above counts products. This one asks a different question: of the products in a category that report revenue, what share clears $1k? A big category can convert badly and a thin one can convert well — and when you are weighing small business ideas against each other, conversion is the number that matters.

CategoryReport MRR≥ $1kHit rate

Categories with fewer than 13 products that report MRR (E-commerce 7, Analytics 9, Health & Fitness 12) are left out of the ranking: one product would move the rate by several points. Their medians are still in the table above.

Three filters, from the data

  1. 01

High median, few products. A category where the middle product already earns well but the count is small usually means demand exists and supply is thin.

  2. 02

Cleared $1k, then flattened. Products that stop growing after their first plateau are the ones a better execution can take — the buyer is already paying someone.

  3. 03

One person above $5k. Those exist in this sample; each one proves a single operator can hold that niche without a team.

Four filters, before you build

A list of ideas is a list of guesses. Spend one week on the cheapest question that can kill the guess — does anyone already pay for something close? — then put it through these four. All four are checkable in an afternoon, and none of them require building anything.

  1. 01

Does anyone already pay for this, in a form you can find? A competitor with public pricing is the cheapest validation that exists. Zero competitors usually means zero budget, not an open field.

  2. 02

Can you reach 100 of those buyers this month without buying ads? If the answer is 'with SEO, in a year', it is not a small business yet — it is a publication.

  3. 03

Can one person deliver the whole job? Categories that need a team to deliver also need a team to sell, which is a different company and a different bank account.

  4. 04

Does the money repeat? Subscription revenue compounds; project revenue resets to zero every month. Pick one on purpose instead of discovering which one you picked.

Why we do not rank ideas

A ranked list of ideas would be our guess dressed as data. The table above is the data. If you want one sentence: pick a category where buyers already pay, and narrow it until one person can own the whole workflow.

Method

851 products in our library that publish revenue through a payment provider, crawled 2026-10-30. 435 of them report a non-zero MRR; medians and percentiles are computed on that subset only. Missing values are never treated as zero. This is the population that chooses to publish revenue — not the whole market.
